This blog is about the interview we had to make. We had to interview one “successful” person and reflect about this interview.
I decided to interview my dad. My dad lives in Africa and works for the IMF, he’s part of an organization that evaluate what are the needs in terms of infrastructures (roads, electricity, water wells, etc.) in several area of Congo.
It meant a lot to me not only because it is my dad but also because he’s part of such a big project in Africa where a lot of people don’t even have a job. It also meant a lot to me because he was describing his job with passion by putting the emphasis on the fact that these projects is for the well being of everyone and benefits all.
I learnt that my father considers himself successful because he is successful in his own path but also because this job is an opportunity for him to help others by improving the living conditions in this country.
It affects my career because it was opportunities for me to re- evaluate the definition of success and what will make me being successful in a non-selfish way.

i like that fact that your father sees himself as being a successful person because not many people that work the kind of job that he does would say that they are successful. this makes me think twice, because i have always seen or thought a successful perwson is a person with job security and a residual check in the mail. his prospective makes my mind expand and see it more as helping other and making a better community/state.
ReplyDeleteHey Harmony i hope you dont think that because your father helps people in a direct way you think your career might be selfish. There are other ways to help people and you may not even be aware when you do. I agree with what you stated about your father believing that he is successful in his own way. Many people mistake that success always means money, power and even some fame but i believe a persons true success is when they feel it is, when they are happy and content and enjoy what they do with passion... not how the world or others view it.
ReplyDeleteyea, after hearing Hadrian state that he has a different opinion on what being successful means to him i think the whole class had to change their perspectives on the meaning of being successful. im pretty sure that your dad stresses out over his job but when things go the rite way and when the day is done, knowing that he is apart of the reason that areas of Congo are getting better must make him feel proud. i think as humans, we all want to be of use to someone. we just need the right opportunity
